A Hand in the Bush
The Fine Art of Vaginal Fisting
Greenery Press

This book is as fun as the Vagina Monologues -- you get to read the word "cunt" over and over on every page. Author Deborah Addington does not believe in technical language; nor will she stoop to using euphemisms. In other words, a cunt is a cunt is a cunt. And Addington's book tells you all you need to know to get a fist into one, and then, more interestingly, how to get it out. For example, we are told that after an orgasmic fisting session, the vaginal opening can form a seal around the fister's wrist. A sticky situation to say the least. But no need to start picturing yourself one of those emergency room freak shows, where you and your lady show up locked cunt and fist in embarrassing embrace. A few verbal tips and 6 illustrative frames later, and Addington has you out of this bind.

More in the manner of a web site than of similar primers, this book has a FAQ chapter -- very useful and approachable. Is fisting dangerous? Is it painful? What does it feel like? Then in "The Cunt Owner's Manual," Addington has some great ideas for self exploration. Though aimed at cunt owners (as opposed cock owners) most of the tips could be just as useful for cunt explorers). After you learn the basic process, Addington suggests positions and furniture that will give you the most comfortable experience. And the chapter called "Fisting: The Adventure" is simply a good read. More description than discussion, "The Adventure" covers varied options that expand on the initial one hand-one cunt process. It certainly gives beginners something to aspire to. For example, Addington highly recommends fisting in a sling (because someone can get at the fistee from all sides, even from underneath -- with a vibrator, no less!). Her wet, frank description is very convincing. That's the quality of Addinton's style that really stands out. The bare bones, clear, unmitigated way she presents the act of fisting. At the same time, it's always quite clear that Addington has good experience on her side:

"My first fisting experience in a sling involved me as the fistee. I had people on all four sides of me, immersing me in fingers, kisses and lube. There was a mirror on the ceiling right above me…that gave me a great view" (61).

This is probably the best thing about Addington's book -- there is no way to talk about fisting without getting juicy. Or, also in the "Adventure" chapter, notice Addington's brief, but persuasive description of dual fisting:

"Of all the positions, people, toys, techniques and variations, I've tried, the most amazing sexual experience I've ever had was when a lover and I fisted each other at the same time…we both came at the same time and it was breathtaking to have my orgasm, have her inside me, be inside her, feel her orgasm, watch her orgasm…" (62). The chapter goes on to talk about anal/vaginal fisting and other adventures.

Because the book feels so descriptive, it's simplicity is deceptive. Yes, there is a whole chapter of stories and poems by women about their fisting experiences (or fantasies), which certainly makes fisting feel more personal and less technical -- it's the tastiest format you could have for such an intimate act. And Addington refers mostly to her own experiences, with occasional reference to a team of three doctors whom she has consulted for issues like at what age should a woman consult with her physician before engaging in fisting (doctor's answer: 80). This juicy storytelling is why when you get to the advanced anatomical tricks (like female ejaculation in Appendix I), the amount of information you've already assimilated takes you by surprise. You realize that you know how to prepare, how to be safe (gloves and a nail clipping), how to warm-up, explore, enter, fist, and cool down. And the illustrations all the way through are jolly and sexy, even for black and white line drawings -- lots of spread legs and cunts with fists and fingers in them. In fact, after a quick read through of A Hand in the Bush (under 100 pages of easy reading) you'll probably feel right ready to try fisting, without reservations.
