I'm gonna guess that most people won't have a clue when they are being lied to. Example: the politicians who they vote for.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

I don't think it was initially presented by the NLP folks (mainly Bandler and Grinder) promoted these ideas as a lie detector ... been a while since I read those 70s books. But considering that NLP is more often found being used in high power sales, politics, and intelligence avenues ... areas of high control interests ... all claims become dubious.

It is, of course, obvious that if a hypnotist says: Everyone or most people do ____ when _____. It is a suggestion offered as an observation (With a flair of importance if offered as researched). Much of this has been done in Academia as well ... think of the judeo-Christian values being mixed in with Anthropology of so called 'primitive cultures'. Are the biased or is it intentional blindness ... so as to speak a turn of phrase.

Another one being the assertion that the unconscious mind is unable to process negations ... that all answers are yes or participatory. How can that be anything but a suggestion?

From the roots of hypnosis supposed origins ... Mesmer and his notion of Animal Magnatism ... suggestions. But to whom? Well the unaware ... more modern terms might be the 'insensate food tubes couching the american bypass' but animals and magnets still popular suggestions.

Back to eye movements ... the real scheme took into account ... looks to the L/R and at three levels as an unconscious indicator of what areas of the brain are being accessed. Could be memory or could be a construct. These were to be taken as micro expressions and unconscious ... because if one knows this info .. they can practice it .... I know I've seen it used like tuning an antenna ... cough while turning head down to the left or ask a question then turn eyes up to the right ... in my life I've seen the proactive use of these signals than their unconscious use. Or .... they were indeed non-conscious and the subconscious occupied the supra-conscious ... which all happened last weekend near my friend's condo on the beach.

Eye movement to brain accessing is wonky ... now we can scan the brain directly and see what parts light up ... how clever we are. We are gonna have to keep debunking truth to keep any kind of hat on in the future. Breaking eye contact in intense encounters can be a coping mechanism due to the person trying to hypnotize them or interrogate them (usually both). The notion of blink ... the gap in the guff ... context leads to deep waters ... and deeper still.

Here are too quotes that probably put the whole thing more directly than i'm able:

Jacques Lacan:
"A Situated ignorance is different from something purely negative. This situated ignorance, after all is precisely nothing other than this presentification of the unconscious.
....of note Noam Chomsky calls him a charlatan. Well he ought to know.

Salvador Dali:
"it is either easy or impossible"
....Dali here is probably referring to the presence of the natural state in humans, once innocence has passed suggestions become nearly impossible to pass as well.
